Physical stabilization of expansive subgrade soil using locally produced geogrid material

Abstract This paper illustrates application of a locally produced geogrid material for strength improvement expansive subgrade soil. Samples black, soft soil predominating the study area were collected from south western parts Modjo town, inside rift valley region central Ethiopia. X-Ray diffraction as well index property tests executed to identify and categorize expansiveness highly plastic The effects two manufactured reinforcement materials; namely, polypropylene (PP) high density polyethylene (HDPE) on California bearing ratio (CBR) values have been investigated. test results indicated that use can significantly improve capacity weak soaked CBR untreated sample, which was about 2.98%, able be raised 10.16% 7.48% by PP HDPE type respectively, placed at 0.35H top specimen. research demonstrated potential using
